What’s the big deal about water conservation?
We are the first culture in history to put such huge demands on water consumption. Our ancestors, to the beginning of time, used water to drink, bathe, irrigate their crops, and some miscellaneous industry. As climate changed and the water was no longer available, they migrated to other areas.
In our time we develop stationary metropolises and towns and have pushed the envelope by taking water for granted. Our industries use huge amounts of water every day and our modern hygiene practices call for much more use than ever before. To top it off we irrigate our landscapes more than necessary in most cases.
Our Anglo-Saxon culture has had a love for the lush green look, feel, and versatility of an estate-like lawn since the 1700s, but one must keep in mind that those envious estates were in European nations and the east coast of the New World where climate conditions tend to be more suitable for such landscape.
According to the Associated Press on MSNBC’s website, on February 27 of this year, a state of emergency was declared by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger due to drought. Broad conservation measures were requested. You can read the rest of the story here. The bottom line is that we are using water faster than our natural hydrological cycle can replenish itself. We live in an ever changing world and cannot expect to keep up with the potentially increasing demands of population, industry, and beautification via landscape irrigation without a dramatic perspective change. We must prioritize water consumption and allow our ground water tables to replenish to capacity when we can. Beautiful landscapes are an important source of comfort, peace, and clean air, but if we don’t all do our part to learn how to use less water to irrigate it we wont have water later to irrigate our crops or even hydrate ourselves.
Sprinkler Pros is here to help.
A rather cool benefit of saving water is saving money. This is where Sprinkler Pros comes in. We can evaluate your landscape irrigation system via an irrigation audit or simply a walk-through inspection. Upon completion, you’ll receive a report and a consultation to discuss what can be done to use less water and still allow you to enjoy your little piece of paradise.
The water cost savings typically far out-weigh the price of an audit or survey. Look at your last year’s water bills. If you could save even 10% this year over last year, what would that savings be? Let’s get together. Read about audits here.
