Is this anything like a tax audit?
Not at all. We’re here to help you save money while you save our most precious resource—water. Irrigation audits will be required in California at some point in time to ensure we are all on the same page with water conservation efforts. Some cities are already requiring them. 2010 was the target year for California to implement a statewide plan for such measures. What is an audit?
It’s a system inspection and water distribution test that determines your sprinkler system performance. Based on that, recommendations will be made to improve it if necessary and a base water schedule will be created.
How is it done?
First, we inspect, adjust, and repair your system as needed. We can’t conduct the system test until the system is in reasonable working order.
Second, we collect several bits of data from your landscape and conduct the system test. This entails using a set of catchments (like the one pictured above) in a grid pattern on your lawn. The sprinkler system is then run for a predetermined amount of time.
Third, the captured amounts of water are recorded and fed into a large set of other calculations that will give us the values we need to determine your Distribution Uniformity (DU). This tells us how even your sprinkler coverage is. From this we can make any necessary recommendations for coverage and conservation improvements. We will also produce a base watering schedule for you.
Do you need anything from me?
That depends. If you want to see what you will potentially save by implementing the recommendations, we’ll need to have your water usage figures (ccf) from your last 12 months of water bills. We will also need to know your current and known future water rates. We’ll feed this information into our calculations and present to you the results.
